Yamaha RX100 Returns: The Classic Icon of Modern Performance That Comes Completely New Design and Engineering

New Delhi, Yamaha RX100, is one of the names that was written on the Indian roads with unparalleled image and power is now making a long awaited comeback. Yamaha has finally set out to resurrect this iconic motorcycle after many years since fans had been making demands about this and speculating that they would never remake these classic motorcycles. Only that this time the RX100 is not going to be only a bout nostalgia, the gadget is going to contain a modern heart and new generation features and the latest power.

Of Indian origins, the RX100 first made its entry in the mid-1980s and was an immediate success among the young people, bikers and speed enthusiasts. The RX100 went on to make a name of its own due to its reputation of being lightweight, its 2-stroke engine with excellent power, and a special exhaust sound. This time, Yamaha is getting ready to re-introduce the same legacy albeit with the right upgraded modifications to adhere to the current emission standards and that of the riders.

New Engine, Old Attitude

The sources familiar with the development indicate that Yamaha is ditching the old 2-stroke engine with a new 4-stroke one. There are chances that the new RX100 will have a fuel injected engine, of 150cc capacity which will have a more polished power but will also provide better economy besides having lesser emissions. The need to make this switch is because the older 2-stroke technology no longer meet the standards of BS6 and the emerging EV transitionation requirements.

Although the engine is different, the company has assured that the DNA of RX100 in terms of performance will be retained. The engineers are concentrating on retaining that speedy pick up and throttle response which made the RX100 so popular with speed lovers.

Modernistic Retro Style

The new model 2014 RX100 will feature the traditional styling features such as the round headlamp, flat-seat and chrome coverings. But it will also have a modern touch including LED lighting, digital instrument console and suspension shadow. The alloy wheels can be introduced as a standard; Yamaha may also introduce spoke wheels as a retro edition.

The chassis should have a new design, which is more stable and comfortable to the rider. Indications are that the weight will remain low to be in line with the light-footed nature of the original RX100.

Launch Dates and Estimated cost

The development stages in Yamaha are pretty sophisticated, and the release is expected to occur somewhere in 2025. The manufacturing of the motorcycle is going to be in India maintaining low prices. Its estimated value may be between 1.25 to 1.40 lakh (ex-showroom) that would put it in competition with models such as TVS Ronin, Bajaj Pulsar 150, and Royal Enfield Hunter 350.

Target audience: New fans and loyal fans

Its successor, the RX100, is likely to be bought by the new-generation riders, who want to have a performant but also by the old-timers who want to recall the experience. This decision made by Yamaha is right when retro-themed motorbikes become popular in different parts of India.

The return of RX100 under the new safety and emission standards could be seen as Yamaha trying to provide the desired products that appear to be more focused on combining classic lines and high-tech functionality in their products.

Market strategy and outlook

Analysts feel that this is a tactical ploy to increase the Yamaha stake in the entry and mid level bikes category. The brand value of RX100 is powerful enough to attract people and in case the company can give the correct mix of performance, design and price the model can become one of the best selling ones once again.

Final Word

The re-entry of Yamaha RX100 in India will be a turning point in history of motorcycling in India. A new edition will be smarter, safer, and more adapted to today conditions, although the spirit of the original bike will not be touched. As the RX100 gears up to make a loud comeback on the roads, it is clear that Yamaha is losing no opportunity in trying to recapture not only a model, but rather a feeling.

Keep checking back soon with updates as the legendary RX100 gears up to have its second lease of life on Indian roads.
