The 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is the small off-roader we've been waiting for.
Toyota has just revealed something amazing for adventure lovers: the Land Cruiser FJ. This little SUV has a classic look and feel, but it still has the spirit of the Land Cruiser. The Japan Mobility Show in October 2025 showed off this "mini" Land Cruiser. It pays homage to the famous FJ40 from the 1960s while yet having modern technology and serious off-road abilities. It will be on Japanese roads in the middle of 2026, and production will start in Thailand. This could be the right car for you if you want a tough everyday vehicle that's enjoyable on trails but not as big as a full-size Land Cruiser. Let's look at what we know thus far.
Design: Old-school cool meets new-school tough
With its boxy shape, round LED headlights, powerful grille, and wide wheel arches, the Land Cruiser FJ screams tradition. This is a direct reference to the iconic FJ40. Because it's smaller (about 188 inches long and 101.6 inches wide), it's more agile than its bigger brothers. It has a go-anywhere stance thanks to its short overhangs, high ground clearance, skid plates, roof rails, and all-terrain tires. Expect choices like matte finishes to give you that desert-ready vibe.
It has a tough dashboard with tactile knobs (great for hands in gloves on trails), digital displays, touchscreen infotainment, and comfortable seats. It's made for four to five people, and the back seats fold down to make more room.
Powertrain and Performance
Toyota hasn't said anything yet, but you may expect strong choices:
- A turbocharged gas engine (maybe 2.4L) with hybrid help for strong power (rumors say it has 280+ horsepower).
- Diesel versions in some areas for more torque-heavy performance.
- Full-time 4x4 with low-range gears, locking diffs, terrain modes, hill descent control, and other features.
It's built on a ladder-frame base for real body-on-frame strength, combining city efficiency with famous off-road ability—think mud, sand, rocks, and steep climbs without breaking a sweat.
Tech and Features: A touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation with off-road overlays, and 360-degree cameras.
Comfort: automatic climate control, wireless charging, and high-quality materials.
Safety: Toyota Safety Sense (adaptive cruise, lane assist, emergency braking), several airbags, and stability control.
We don't know the exact mileage yet, but hybrids should be very efficient.
Prices and the launch in India
There isn't an official global price yet, but it should be lower than the Prado—around ₹25–40 lakh ex-showroom if it comes to India (some reports predict 2027–2028). Be careful of clickbait sites that say they can give you ₹2–5 lakh. That's only a fantasy and not real.
Launch in India? Not definite yet, but Toyota is looking into markets where there is a lot of demand for small off-road vehicles. It may be as good as the new micro defenders or Jimny on steroids.
In short, the 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is going to be a fun, useful small SUV that brings back the FJ ethos for a new generation. It's not here yet, but the excitement is real. It's great for getting around the city during the week and going on trails on the weekends. As we come closer to the debut, we'll share more official information. What do you think? Would you buy one?
