Later this year, the Renault Triber will get a considerable power boost as it will finally get a turbocharged petrol engine. The small seven-seat which is known to be very flexible in its seating and also affordable in terms of cost has hitherto been powered by a naturally aspirated unit of 1.0 litre. According to industry sources, the more powerful 1.0-litre turbo engine, already fitted in the Renault Kiger, may be made available in September or October 2026, possibly with manual, CVT automatic and even factory-fitted CNG.
This follows a period where the Indian car market is about to enter a hectic season in the midsize SUV and crossover markets. Buyers seeking more space, style or performance will have new options with a few new models and updated versions on the way in the next few months. A more detailed overview of some of the most important arrivals in the rest of 2026 can be found here.
Mahindra Scorpio N Facelift.
Mahindra is working on a mid-life makeover of its successful ladder-frame SUV, the Scorpio N. A facelift, which is predicted to be introduced in August of 2026, is projected to introduce minor design changes, such as a new front fascia and new headlight signatures, as well as, improved interior. It is reported that higher variants will also have a panoramic sunroof, which is a typical request of buyers.
The mechanical package will not change much, as the existing diesel and petrol engine choices will probably be retained, which have allowed the Scorpio N to develop a reputation of being rugged and impressing on the road. The prices will begin at around Rs 14 lakh with a slight price increment to accommodate the additional equipment. The revamp is expected to make the model competitive to new competitors but maintain its essence as a rugged, family friendly SUV.
The Urban Cruiser Ebella sees the light of the day in 2020.
The Urban Cruiser Ebella is an all-electric midsize SUV that is the first big electric vehicle Toyota is launching in India. The Ebella is based on the same platform as the Maruti e Vitara and offers the buyer a selection of two battery packs 49 kWh and 61 kWh with a quoted range of up to 543 km on the ARAI cycle with the larger pack.
A front-mounted electric motor provides power, with the outputs depending on the variant, to offer responsive performance that fits both city and highway journeys. The car is placed as a viable, zero-emission alternative in a traditionally petrol and diesel-dominated market. Pre-orders already started, and the prices will start at about Rs 19 lakh. Initial impressions reveal that it is a comfortable ride with a modern cabin, but the actual range will be determined by the conditions on the road and the usage.
Skoda Kylaq Sportline
Skoda has added new trims to the Kylaq series and assured that a more sporty Sportline version will be added later in 2026. The Kylaq, already attracting notice with its unconventional design and good construction, already has a variety of well-equipped models. The next Sportline will have more aggressive styling, distinctive badging and perhaps performance-inspired details to attract enthusiasts who want a more aggressive appearance.
New models, including the Classic Plus and Prestige Plus models have added features such as bigger infotainment screens and more safety gear as standard. The Sportline is expected to be released towards the end of the year, which will further enhance the competition presence of Skoda in the compact SUV segment. It will provide the current engine choices, but rather emphasize visual and equipment improvements to make a difference.
Nissan Tekton
Nissan is preparing to introduce the all new Tekton, a midsize SUV which has been specifically designed and engineered keeping Indian market squarely in focus. The Tekton is due to be produced in early 2026, and will be shipped to the showrooms by mid-year, and will be produced in the Renault-Nissan factory in Chennai. It is part of the new thrust of Nissan in India within the One Car, One World strategy.
Placed in C-SUV segment, the Tekton is likely to provide a combination of stylish looks, functional interior and affordable prices, with the estimates being approximately Rs 11 lakh. Specifics on specific powertrains are still under wrap, but the car will presumably tap into the current engine technologies of the alliance. Nissan has also specified that it will not only make domestic sales but it might also be able to export the model, which suggests confidence in the appeal of the model worldwide. The Tekton will strive to compete with the established players having a strong value proposition and modern features.
These launches are indicative of the high competition within the Indian SUV market, with manufacturers looking to electrification, increased features and better powertrains to keep up with the changing customer demands. In the case of the Renault Triber, the introduction of a turbo engine may change the driving experience of the car and make it more attractive to those who want to add a little more spice to their all-purpose family car at the cost of the key advantages: space and cost.
With the change in the year, prospective buyers are going to be more than ever before. With the choices of rugged prowess, electric efficiency, sportiness, or sportiness, mundane utility, the next few months are likely to bring more flavor to the midsize segment.
