Skoda Kylaq was launched in India on November 6, 2024, and started selling in January 2025. As of May 2025, it’s a new car in the small SUV group, made specially for Indian roads. You can find it in showrooms across India, and bookings opened on December 2, 2024.

New Look and Build

The Kylaq has a fresh, bold look that makes it different from other Skoda cars. The front has a wide grille with strong lines, slim LED headlamps, and daytime lights on top, giving it a tough and modern style. The bonnet has sharp lines that make it look like a strong little car. From the side, the Kylaq looks neat with clean lines and a high ground clearance of 189 mm, which is good for rough roads. The top versions have 17-inch wheels with a sporty design, while others have 16-inch wheels. The sides also have thick black parts around the wheels to give it a rugged feel. At the back, the Kylaq has LED tail lights shaped like a T, connected by a black strip with Skoda written on it. The back bumper has a rough look with a silver plate, adding to its bold style. The car is 3995 mm long, 1783 mm wide, and 1619 mm tall, with a wheel distance of 2566 mm. It’s smaller than other Skoda SUVs but still looks strong.

Engine and Power

The Kylaq has a small 1-litre petrol engine with extra power from a turbo. It gives good strength, around 115 PS power and 178 Nm strength, for easy city and highway rides. You can pick between a 6-step manual gear system or a 6-step automatic gear system. The top speed is around 188 km per hour, and it takes about 10.5 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km per hour.

Mileage in Daily Use

The Kylaq can go 19 to 20 km on one litre of petrol, as per usual tests. In real use, the mileage changes based on how you drive and the roads. In busy city areas with many stops, it might drop to 8-12 km per litre. On open highways, if you drive at a steady 60-80 km per hour, it can go up to 12-14 km per litre, as some users have shared. The petrol tank holds 45 litres, so on a full tank, you can ride 360-630 km, depending on your driving style. With petrol at Rs 100 per litre, filling the tank costs Rs 4500, which works out to Rs 7.14 to 12.50 per km. If you drive fast or on rough roads, the mileage might drop to 8-10 km per litre, giving a range of 360-450 km.

Inside the Car

The inside of the Kylaq is simple and modern, with a black and grey look and some silver and chrome parts. It has a 10.1-inch touchscreen for music and phone use, with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There’s also an 8-inch digital screen for the driver to see speed and other details. The top versions have seats that can be moved with a button and keep you cool in hot weather, plus a sunroof. The car fits 5 people, but the back seat is best for 2 adults and 1 child because it can feel tight. The boot space is 446 litres, which is big for its size, and can go up to 1265 litres if you fold the back seats. There are small storage spots, like a phone holder in the back seat pocket, a ticket holder near the driver, and hooks in the boot for bags.

Ride and Handling

The Kylaq has a strong frame that keeps it steady when turning or going fast. The front and back suspension make the ride smooth, even on rough roads. The steering is easy to use, making it good for city driving. The car has disc brakes on all wheels and a system to stop skidding for safety. The tyres are 16 or 17 inches, depending on the type, and give good grip on city and highway roads. The high ground clearance of 189 mm helps it go over small bumps easily.

Price in 2025

The Kylaq price starts at Rs 7.89 lakh and goes up to Rs 14.40 lakh, depending on the type. There are four types: Classic, Signature, Signature Plus, and Prestige. Some reports say the price for lower types went up by Rs 36,000, while higher types got a price cut of Rs 46,000 in early 2025. Used cars might cost less, depending on their condition.

Safety Features

The Kylaq is very safe, with a 5-star rating from a big safety testing group in India. It comes with 6 airbags, a system to stop skidding, and brakes that work well in emergencies. It also has a system to stop the car from rolling back on hills, a brake that works after a crash, and child seat hooks. Some reports say over 25,000 Skoda cars, including the Kylaq, had a recall in April 2025 for a seatbelt issue, but this doesn’t change its safety rating.

Compared to Other Cars

The Kylaq goes up against cars like the Maruti Brezza and Tata Nexon. The Brezza gives around 17-18 km per litre, costing Rs 5.56 per km at Rs 100/litre. The Kylaq’s 12-14 km per litre mileage costs Rs 7.14 to 8.33 per km, so the Brezza saves Rs 1.23 to 2.77 per km. For a daily ride of 50 km, this means yearly savings of Rs 22,000 to Rs 50,000 with the Brezza. The Nexon gives 16-17 km per litre, costing Rs 5.88 per km, saving Rs 1.45 to 2.45 per km over the Kylaq. But the Kylaq has a bigger boot and more safety features, which some buyers might like better.

Support and Maintenance Costs

Skoda has many service centres in India, so fixing the car is easy in most places. Some users said the yearly maintenance cost is between Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000, depending on usage. Keeping the car in good shape, like changing oil on time and checking tyres, helps keep mileage high. If parts get spoiled, it might cost more to fix in small towns.

Market Standing in 2025

In May 2025, the Kylaq is doing well, with 5,364 units sold in April 2025, a small 1% growth from the month before. It’s known for its new look, big boot, and safety, making it popular in cities. It’s Skoda’s smallest and cheapest SUV in India, helping the company reach more buyers in smaller towns.

Who It’s For

The Skoda Kylaq is made for riders who want a 5-seater SUV with a bold new look and good safety. It suits young drivers and small families who want a stylish car for city and highway rides, with a focus on space and safety.
