The new Volkswagen Taigun facelift has been launched in India today, with the updated compact SUV getting a major exterior refresh, an upmarket cabin and significant mechanical revisions to differentiate itself in one of the toughest segments of Indian automotive market.
The mid-life update adds more than 40 new features across design, technology, comfort and performance. And, while the overall character remains familiar, these changes centre on refinement, day to day usability and a touch more upmarket feel.
Sharper, more modern styling
The exterior is where the 2026 Taigun looks significantly sharper. It has thinner LED headlamps linked by a thin light bar, a modified front grille and reshaped bumpers. Highlights include front and rear illuminated Volkswagen logos, connected LED taillamps that feature sequential turn indicators. A new wheel design and fresh colours including the eye-catching Avocado Pearl round out the revamped look.
In this way it gives the Taigun a fresh yet familiar and very modern look, without messing too much with its established confident posture.
Upmarket and more comfortable interior
Up front, Volkswagen has sought to up perceived quality and passenger comfort. The dashboard now gets new textures and dual-tone themes, whereas the seats are now wrapped in revised leatherette upholstery with contrast stitching and new patterns. Ambient lighting, including a dramatic red hue available in higher trims, gives the cabin warmth.
The long-awaited additions consist of a panoramic sunroof (which happens to come in also beneficial summer variant), ventilated and power-adjustable front seats, even a massage function for rear seats on top spec versions. These updates fill those gaps and improve the feel of the Taigun against its rivals in the segment.
Enhanced technology package
The infotainment setup has also been updated with a new 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as well as an AI-powered voice assistant. A new, larger 10.25-inch digital driver’s display integrates turn-by-turn navigation.
Other helpful features such as wireless charging, touch-sensitive climate controls and better connected-car options keep the cabin feeling nicely up to date.
Key mechanical updates
The engines remain unchanged: a 1.0-litre TSI with 115 PS and 178 Nm, as well as a more powerful 1.5-litre TSI unit generating 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque. The main news is buried under the smaller engine's bonnet, where a new 8-speed torque-converter automatic transmission replaces an older 6-speed unit.
According to Volkswagen, the revised gearbox offers smoother shifts and better response along with an efficiency increase of 5-6 percent. The 1.5-litre variant carries forward the DSG 7-speed dual clutch automatic, although manual options will remain on offer as well. All-wheel disc brakes add even greater stopping power to higher variants.
