New Delhi, India – Tata Motors is set to showcase the all-new, fully electric version of its revived Sierra SUV in the next few weeks ahead of launching it later this year as part of an Indian automaker's full-fledged planned assault on the country's electric vehicle market.

Previous images of the Sierra EV hint that it will be a smaller and more affordable sibling to the recently unveiled Harrier EV, with industry sources and statements from the company indicating that it would launch in Q2 2026, likely May or June of that year. Production will be at Tata's Sanand plant in Gujarat, the same facility that is also responsible for building the petrol and diesel versions of the Sierra models, which have already generated huge customer interest since their introduction late last year.

The electric Sierra will be built on an underpinnings similar to that of the Harrier EV, with details of Tata's development programme coming to light. It will likely use the same Acti. ev+ platform with buyers being able to opt for two battery packs, plus rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations – making it the second Tata model to offer an AWD variant after the Harrier EV.

Exact specifications are, of course, still under wraps ahead of the official reveal, but early indications suggest the latest Tesla will offer battery options in the neighbourhood of 65 kWh and 75 kWh with a car capable of delivering real-world driving range comfortably in excess of 450 km on a single charge. The dual-motor AWD variant should provide even stronger performance for those who want more spirited driving or occasional light off-road capability, providing a repeat of the Harrier’s proven powertrain architecture.

Pricing remains speculation, though analysts expect the Sierra EV to begin at around ₹18-25 lakh (ex-showroom), undercutting the Harrier EV yet positioning it above Tata’s smaller electric offerings like the Curvv EV and updated Punch EV. The move would allow the company to fill a key hole in its portfolio, appealing to buyers who want a rugged, lifestyle focused SUV without venturing into any flagship territory.

The timing is strategic. India’s EV sales have remained on a growth trajectory, despite concerns over charging infrastructure and raw material pricing. Tata — already the nation’s biggest electric passenger car manufacturer — has been gradually expanding its range with models that blend familiar design traits and modern zero-emission technology. The original Sierra was a cult classic from the 1990s, revered for its boxy charm and go-anywhere attitude; resurrected in ICE form just months ago, now the electric fit is joining to squeeze that same emotional connection out to new generation eco-minded drivers.

Vivek Srivatsa, who is Tata’s chief commercial officer, previously signaled that the Sierra EV would come very soon after the combustion-engine version with a game plan that has worked for the company before with its other nameplates. The AWD and multiple battery sizes have been added keeping in mind a surge in customer demand for such vehicles that can tackle India’s diverse roads and climates.

As competition heats up — with Mahindra, Hyundai and others gearing up their own electric SUVs — Tata’s new arrival could solidify its advantage even more. For now we will have to wait a wee bit longer for the full reveal, but early hints indicate that the Sierra EV could be a blend of heritage styling with contemporary electric performance in an India-centric package.
