Demand for SUVs and MPVs drive Kia India to its best March sales, 14% growth overall
New Delhi – Kia India has posted its best-ever performance for the month of March with sales of 29,112 units in March 2026. That’s a healthy 14 percent gain compared with the 25,525 units sold in the same month last year, which reinforces the automaker’s steady ascent in one of the world’s most cutthroat car markets.
The increase is bolstered by continued buyer demand for the automaker’s mainstay range of SUVs and multi-purpose vehicles. Industry analysts attribute the results to a combination of refreshed models, competitive pricing and rising consumer confidence in the mid- to premium segments.
With 12,012 units sold, the compact SUV Kia Sonet topped the charts model-wise. Hot on its heels was the Seltos, which delivered 11,041 units — not a bad showing for the new-ish compact SUV that has cleared 10,000 total deliveries each month since launch. Another 5,933 units were added to the tally in the form of the Carens MPV, with the flagship Carnival and newer Syros helping it get to 67 and 59 units respectively.
The latest Seltos has grown into a significant volume driver, in particular. With its updated safety kit — it received a five-star Bharat NCAP rating — the model has also resonated with buyers looking for both style and substance in the mid-size SUV segment. On the other hand, the Sonet holds fort in the sub-four-metre space with an extended line-up of variants which seem to clinch well with urban users.
Kia India also posted its best-ever Q1 results for the period from January to March, moving 84,316 units — an increase of 11.6 percent compared to the same period in 2025. The company attributed the results to “sustained demand across our SUV and MPV portfolio”, particularly crediting the Seltos, Sonet and Carens range.
Atul Sood, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Kia India said the brand’s philosophy around feature-rich, safety-oriented vehicles was nicely timed with changing expectations from customers. “The new Seltos continues to drive momentum, supported by its solid safety credentials, while Sonet and Carens continue to deliver steady volumes,” he said.
The March numbers, however, wrap up a decent beginning to 2026 for the South Korean carmaker in India. With competition increasing across segments — from traditional competitors to new electric and hybrid entrants — Kia’s ability to sustain double-digit growth will be closely scrutinized. The company seems primed to capitalize on this momentum as it continues its network expansion and refreshes its portfolio.
