The all-new second-generation model will be the first time Kia introduces its popular Seltos SUV to European buyers later this year.

The relocation is a big growth to one of the best world performers by the South Korean manufacturer. The Seltos was previously sold in other markets such as India, the United States and South Korea, but was conspicuously missing in Europe, where Kia has been using other models like the Sportage and Sorento to compete in the SUV markets.

As the updated version finally arrives, the company now directly targets the very competitive compact crossover market, where it now competes directly with other well-established competitors, such as the Volkswagen T-Roc and Toyota C-HR.

A world bestseller goes west.

The Seltos has become Kia second-best-selling car in the global market with the first-generation selling incredibly well due to its practical design, competitive prices, and versatile powertrains. The second-generation model that was announced at the end of last year is a continuation of that success with more adventurous styling, more technology and more focus on efficiency to better meet Europeans and their requirements.

The new Seltos is placed in between the smaller Stonic and the bigger Sportage in the European range of Kia cars with a length of about 4.43 metres. It has a more practical interior and a concentration on authentic SUV styling and practical day-to-day usability according to the manufacturer.

Kia Europe has already posted the vehicle on its official site as coming soon, but both with petrol and hybrid models. It is projected that deliveries will start in the second half of 2026, and the time depends on the country. In the UK, the model will first be available in the form of a hybrid only, with full specs and pricing being released in the third quarter of the year.

Powertrain options tailored for Europe

European customers can choose between power sources, which are aimed at performing well and being less emitted. Some markets will feature a 1.6-litre petrol-powered, turbocharged engine with an approximate power output of 180 PS (petrol horsepower), and will enter production in the second quarter of 2026.

Nonetheless, the limelight is squarely on the hybrid choices. These are the new 154 hp hybrid and a more potent 178 hp e-AWD with a more powerful rear electric motor to enhance traction. The hybrid powertrains also present vehicle-to-load (V2L) to a Kia hybrid in Europe, enabling the owner to charge external devices, which may be of interest to those who have active lifestyles or who simply need it occasionally outside.

This electric drive is consistent with the industry trends and European efforts to shift towards lower-emission cars. Chief Operating Officer of Kia Europe, Sjoerd Knipping, stated that the introduction helps the brand strengthen its presence in one of the most rapidly expanding SUV segments and help the Seltos to reinforce its significance in the global portfolio of the company.

Playing in an overcrowded field.

Compact SUV market in Europe is a highly competitive part of the market dominated by vehicles that are practical in day-to-day use and are also stylish and run on low costs. The T-Roc has been a conceptual standard, and is valued on its quality of construction and handling, and the Toyota C-HR is characterised by its unusual appearance and its hybrid status.

Kia is also positioning the new Seltos as an attractive alternative, which guarantees self-assurance on the road, cutting-edge technology and high value. The industry observers put the pricing to begin in the range of £30,000 in the UK, but the official numbers are yet to be established.

Analysts say that the timing is better than what it would have been with the first-generation model. As the popularity of crossovers grows and more and more consumers are interested in hybrid technology, the Seltos has come at the time when Kia is increasing its presence across Europe.

What customers can look forward to.

In addition to the mechanical enhancements, the second-generation Seltos is more luxurious, with better materials and the most up-to-date infotainment systems. Such practical touches as a spacious boot compartment and adjustable seating are likely to continue being major selling points.

Safety technology will also be extensive, as in case with the recent models of Kia, where advanced driver assistance systems are included, to comply with the high standards of the European market.

Although specifics of equipment levels and specifications will be fully revealed closer to launch, initial signs point to the vehicle having a wide selection of options to fit the needs of various customers- efficient front-wheel-drive hybrids to all-wheel-drive versions that may be more appropriate to a wide range of weather conditions.

Kia has an opportunity to expand its SUV offering in Europe with the introduction of the Seltos that coincides with the growing popularity of the brand. It will also need to see whether it can cut a large portion in a market filled with powerful competitors but the hybrid power, aggressive design, and established worldwide popularity gives it a good base on which to compete.
