The new 2026 Syros has been introduced by Kia India, which is a major move in its quest to conquer the competitive sub-four metre SUV. The new model year (MY26) model is more aggressive in pricing, offers a wider selection of trims and slight but still distinct styling changes, as the Korean automaker tries to reinforce the appeal of the vehicle in the face of increasing competition in one of the most saturated car markets in India.

The Syros was firstly launched as the most ambitious and high-end product offered by Kia in the sub-4m SUV segment. Placed a notch higher than its competitors in equipment and refinement, it was notable that it only supplied turbo-petrol engines as standard in its original range, and a range of highly sophisticated features, uncommon at this price. Just a year later, the company has acted swiftly in updating the model based on the customer feedback and market forces.

The 2026 Kia Syros has now begun with a starting price of ₹8.39 lakh (ex-showroom), as compared to the earlier base price of approximately ₹8.67 lakh. On the higher end, the price would be around 15.80 lakh, depending on the variant and powertrain. Such price change, in addition to new trims, is supposed to make the vehicle more affordable and enhance its value.

The variety of trims has been increased to four by the introduction of the new trims: HTE, HTE(O), HTK+(O) and HTX(O). Customers have a wider range, seven total major trim levels, which the updated range has to offer. Interestingly, the availability of automatic transmission options, including diesel-automatic models, have been introduced at lower positions of the ladder, with the HTK+ being the first model in the diesel automatic at 12.74 lakh (ex-showroom). Such expanded reach to automatics will undoubtedly attract city customers who are more concerned with convenience in traffic jams.

On the design front, the MY26 Syros gets new front and rear bumpers with body-coloured aero inserts to give it a cleaner and more contemporary appearance. Other changes are glossy black skid plate finishes, ORVMs and roof rails, LED fog lamps and LED stop lamp on the rear. The higher variants have now got new 17 inch alloy wheels which are cut in diamond-cut and have the eye catching neon-coloured brake calipers and give the car a sportier look. It has also added three new colour choices, Magma Red, Ivory Silver Matte and Ivory Silver Gloss, which gives the buyer even more options on how to personalise their cars.

Although there are cosmetic and variant modifications, the fundamental strengths of the Syros have not been lost. The SUV remains bold and boxy with the language of design reminiscent of bigger Kia models like the Carnival and EV9. It is marked by unique vertically arranged LED headlights and contemporary cabin with a massive 30-inch Trinity panoramic display, dual-pane panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats and connected car technology.

The focus on safety has never been neglected and the 2026 model still has a five-star BNCAP rating. The more advanced driver assistance systems, such as Level 2 ADAS, are likely to remain prominent on higher trims.

The Syros can have powertrain choices of 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol rated at 120PS and 172Nm with six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The range also includes a 1.5 litre turbo-diesel with 115PS and 250Nm with manual or automatic gearboxes.

Analysts in the industry believe the update of the MY26 is timely to Kia India. The sub-4m SUV has been highly competed by models like Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue among others. With the entry price reduction and expanded number of variants, Kia seems interested in winning over a greater portion of low-income consumers who still expect high-quality features and quality of construction.

These modifications are indicative of our efforts to be responsive to our customers and transform the product to fulfill their expectations, said a Kia India spokesperson in the official statement. The company has focused more on the fact that the renewed Syros balances improve the visual appeal, better driving choices and affordability without losing the quality experience that characterized the original Syros.

The 2026 Kia Syros is now available in Kia dealerships nationwide with the expected shipments to start soon. Initial signs through dealer contacts indicate there is a lot of interest especially in the new automatic variants and on the new colour palette.

Since the SUV market in India is still in its fast growth phase especially in the compact segment, innovations such as this by existing players like Kia will be instrumental in influencing consumer preference. It is yet to be seen how the MY26 Syros will be able to turn these gains into greater sales volumes, but on paper, the package has become much more competitive than it was previously.
