In March 2026, Hero Splendor continues to be the highest selling motorcycle in India

Hero Splendor has seen its established presence in Indian motorcycle market record good sales amid the growing competition in the commuter market. The no-nonsense commuter of Hero MotoCorp sold 332,227 units, according to the latest industry figures of March 2026, which is once again at the top of the charts.

Although the growth was not very substantial (3 years on year), the loyalty of the Splendor in the rural and semi-urban markets is unparalleled. Low cost, time tested reliability and high fuel economy have remained the default version among the millions of Indian consumers who want reliable daily transportation.

The second car that achieved high momentum is the Honda Shine with sales of 173,098 units which is a good growth of 14.5% over the same period in 2010. The 125cc motorcycle has enjoyed the image of Honda as a quality and refined company and especially to urban commuters who have a taste of smoothness and low maintenance expenses.

Thirdly, Bajaj Auto Pulsar series also have an impressive performance with the sales increasing to 132,248 units. This was a great 24 percent increase on the previous year, which shows the popularity of the Pulsar brand among younger riders who demand performance and style. The sportiness of the Pulsar is still echoed to this day in a market that has always been dominated by low-cost commuter vehicles.

HF Deluxe, the own brand of Hero was at position four but it experienced a slight decline in sales to 85,088 units. The base product is still a competitive player in the most price-sensitive markets, although it is under pressure by competitors.

Farther below on the list, TVS Motor registered 47,081 units of their Apache which showed moderate growth of 6.5 percent, and remained popular in the entry-level performance category. Re-entering the top 10 with 32,822 units sold, Platina by Bajaj is an indication of newfound excitement in ultra-affordable, high-mileage commuters. Hero Glamour returned to the list with the 10 th best selling with a tremendous growth of more than 135 per cent to 25,522 units, the highest growth rate in the top ten models. This steep increase points to the increased need to have a more fashionable 125cc with a touch more high-end.

According to analysts, the total two-wheeler market has been on a positive trend in March, with the motorcycles still propelling volumes among the mainstream manufacturers. Hero MotoCorp continued to lead OEMs, with powerful domestic shipments, and Honda and TVS also achieved good returns. Bajaj Auto which has been strong in exports also registered good domestic growth.

Platina and Glamour making it to the top 10 highlights how preference in the commuter space is shifting. The buyers are more willing to consider models with more features or styling yet not going too far out of the core principles of affordability and efficiency. Meanwhile, the fact that the Splendor continues to be a successful brand proves that in the case of a huge part of the market, simplicity and trust still override novelty.

This trend is likely to continue in the forthcoming months but increasing fuel prices, rural income levels and possible changes in policies regarding emissions are likely to affect future buying behavior. Premiumisation is an undercurrent, which is growing slowly, but steadily, with 125cc and above segments slowly shifting share as the sub-100cc segment defends itself.

The unabashed dominance that one analyst described Hero Splendor would seem to have not been declining. Meanwhile, the roads of India are still squarely in the grip of this evergreen king of commuters - and the Shine, Pulsar, Apache and a few new entrants are keeping its heels.
