Volkswagen Virtus: A Car with a Bold Look in 2025

When It Came Out

The Volkswagen Virtus first came to India in 2022 as a new car to replace an older model called the Vento. As of May 2025, it’s still a top-selling car in its group, with new versions like the GT Line and GT Plus Sport that have a bold look.

Looks and Build

The Virtus has a very strong and stylish look that makes it stand out on the road. The front part has a shiny black grille and dark LED headlamps that give it a tough appearance. The GT Line and GT Plus Sport versions add more black parts, like the side mirrors, door handles, and back lights, making the car look even bolder. These versions also have red marks on the grille and brakes, which add a sporty touch. The car has 16-inch wheels with a nice design, and some versions come with a grey roof that looks smart. The Virtus is 4561 mm long, 1752 mm wide, and has a ground clearance of 179 mm, which is good for city and highway roads. It weighs around 1200 kg, depending on the type.

Engine and Power

The Virtus comes with two engine choices. The smaller one is a 1-litre engine that gives good power and strength, letting the car go up to 115 PS. It can be paired with a 6-step gear system, either manual or automatic. The bigger 1.5-litre engine gives more power, up to 150 PS, and is used in the GT Plus Sport version. This engine comes with a 6-step manual or a 7-step automatic gear system. The car can go as fast as 190 km per hour, and it takes about 9 seconds to reach 100 km per hour from a stop.

Mileage in Daily Use

The Virtus with the 1-litre engine can go 20 km on one litre of petrol with the manual gear, and 18.7 km with the automatic, as per usual tests. The 1.5-litre engine gives around 19 km per litre. In real use, the mileage changes based on how you drive and the roads. In busy city areas with many stops, it might drop to 12-14 km per litre. On open highways, if you drive at a steady 60-80 km per hour, it can go up to 18-20 km per litre. The petrol tank holds 45 litres, so on a full tank, you can ride 540-900 km, depending on the engine and driving style. If you drive fast or in heavy traffic, the mileage might drop to 10-12 km per litre, giving a range of 450-540 km.

Inside the Car

The inside of the Virtus looks nice and modern. The GT Line and GT Plus Sport versions have all-black seats and a dashboard with red lines that match the bold look outside. The car has a 10-inch touchscreen for music and phone use, and an 8-inch digital screen for the driver to see speed and other details. It also has features like a sunroof, wireless phone charging, and seats that keep you cool in hot weather. The car fits 5 people, but it’s best for 4 because the back seat can feel tight for the middle person. The boot space is 521 litres, which is big enough for bags for a family trip.

Ride and Handling

The Virtus has a strong frame that keeps it steady when turning or going fast. The front and back suspension make the ride smooth, even on rough roads. The steering is easy to use, making it good for city driving. The car has disc brakes on all wheels, and some versions have a system to stop skidding for safety. The tyres are 16 inches and give good grip on city and highway roads.

Price in 2025

The Virtus price starts at Rs 11.56 lakh and goes up to Rs 19.40 lakh, depending on the type. The GT Line and GT Plus Sport versions cost more, starting around Rs 14 lakh and going up to Rs 19 lakh. Some reports say there are offers in 2025, bringing the starting price down to Rs 10.44 lakh for a short time.

Safety Features

The Virtus is known for being very safe. It has a 5-star safety rating from a big testing group, which means it’s good for both adults and kids. It comes with 6 airbags, a system to stop skidding, and brakes that work well in emergencies. It also has a camera for parking and a system to check tyre pressure.

Compared to Other Cars

The Virtus goes up against cars like the Hyundai Verna and Honda City. The Verna gives around 18 km per litre and costs Rs 2.50 per km at Rs 100/litre. The Virtus’s 18-20 km per litre mileage saves Rs 0.50 per km compared to the Verna. For a daily ride of 50 km, this means yearly savings of Rs 9,000. The Honda City gives 17-18 km per litre, so the Virtus saves a bit here too. But the Verna and City might have more space for 5 people.

Support and Maintenance Costs

Volkswagen has many service centres in India, so fixing the car is easy in most places. Some users said the yearly maintenance cost is between Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000, depending on usage. Keeping the car in good shape, like changing oil on time and checking tyres, helps keep mileage high. If parts get spoiled, it might cost more to fix in small towns.

Market Standing in 2025

In May 2025, the Virtus is still a top car in its group, with over 1900 units sold in a month. It’s known for its bold look, good mileage, and safety, making it popular in cities. Some reports say over 21,000 units of Virtus had a recall for a seatbelt issue in April 2025, but it’s still a strong choice.

Who It’s For

The Volkswagen Virtus is made for riders who want a 5-seater car with a bold look and good mileage. It suits young drivers and families who want a stylish car for city and highway rides, with a focus on safety and power.
